Bette Mae Moore, 100

Bette Mae Moore peacefully passed away on April 30, 2021, four weeks after her 100th birthday.

 

She was born on April 2, 1921 in Greenfield, Indiana – the daughter of Walter and Lena (Reece) Harding. Bette graduated from Greenfield High School.

 

She married Robert E. Moore on April 5, 1942 at Trinity Methodist Church in Shelbyville. They were married over 69 years and spent much of their life together traveling until Bob’s passing in 2011. Their itinerary included several trips to Europe, the Holy Land, Russia, as well as traveling with their kids and grandkids throughout the United States. By land or sea, they loved to travel.

 

In addition to her husband and her parents, Bette is predeceased by three brothers, their wives, and other friends and relatives too numerous to count.

 

Bette is survived by her three children: Rebecca Lyles of Laguna Beach, CA, Gregory Moore (wife Carol) of Newark, DE, and Jerome Moore (wife Chris) of Edmonds, WA. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren, and 11 great grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews. Bette was thankful for the friendship of Bill Restall and his family.

 

Bette was employed by the Monte Glove Company as the office secretary for many years. She served as Deputy County Assessor (Shelby County) and Deputy Clerk Treasurer.

 

She formed the local chapter of Sigma Beta sorority and was a county home economics officer as well as Brownie leader, Cub Scout leader, and 4H leader. She was a past member of the Current Topics Club and member of the Shelby County Historical Society. Bette was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Shelbyville where she served as a deacon and Women’s Association moderator.

 

Bette and her husband Bob were the owners and operators of Arrowhead Ceramics for many years. A talented artist, Bette loved working with ceramics and especially enjoyed sharing her hobby with others in classes taught at Arrowhead Acres.

 

For many years Bette participated in Monday Morning Coffee Group, an activity that she looked forward to and enjoyed.

 

Friends and family are welcome to attend a celebration of Bette’s life on Saturday, May 15 with visitation beginning at 10:30, followed by a service at 11:30 at the Freeman Family Funeral Homes, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, with burial at Forrest Hill Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia; 321 Norristown Road, Suite 260; Ambler, PA 19002.
