G. Douglas “Doug” Tucker, 71, of Shelbyville, passed away Jan. 21, 2024, at St. Francis Hospice House in Indianapolis, Indiana.

He was born Dec. 31, 1952, in Shelbyville to Dennis and Pauline Tucker. He married Darlynn “Dar” Tucker on July 4, 1998, and she survives.

In addition to his wife, Doug is survived by his son, Jason “Jay” Tucker (wife, Lisa) of Indianapolis; stepson, Bruce Romie II of Shelbyville; sister, Theresa Headden of Shelbyville; granddaughters Alison Tucker, Zoe Tucker and Reagan Tucker; several nephews and nieces and his dog, Kingsley.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Dale Tucker, Danny Tucker and Daryle Tucker, and his sister, Connie James.

He worked for 25 years in supervision at KCL and Enbi.

Doug enjoyed riding motorcycles, going boating, time with friends and family, teasing the neighbor kids, and watching out for his neighbors and his dog Kingsley.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, 3718 E. Blue Ridge Road in Shelbyville.

Roberta Inlow, beloved widow, mother, and grandmother passed away in January, 2024, in Torrance, California.

Roberta was born in 1931, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Ruth and Willard Graber.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University and obtained a teaching certificate from Butler University shortly afterwards. While studying at Indiana, Roberta met her husband of 70 years, Robert Inlow.

Roberta spent most of her early years in Clay County, Indiana living on a multi-generational farm that is still in the family.  Initially, she and her sister lived with extended family after their mother passed away and her father supported the family in the US Postal Service.  Eventually, the Graber family settled on the farm where Roberta spent her childhood and graduated from high school.  Roberta then attended Indiana University (IU) where she studied social studies and education and pledged Delta Gamma sorority.  After graduating IU and later completing her teaching certificate from Butler University, Roberta taught school in Indianapolis for several years.

Roberta often said that meeting Robert (“Bob”) Inlow was the best thing that ever happened to her. Married in 1951, in Bloomington, Indiana, she stayed on campus to complete her degree while Bob went to graduate school and medical school.  Together, they moved several times over the next years as Bob completed medical school in Indianapolis, his internship at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and Army service in Columbia, South Carolina. Eventually they settled in Shelbyville, Indiana for over 50 years where Bob practiced medicine at the Inlow Clinic and later at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. Their partnership defined their lives, and they were very devoted to each other.

Roberta spent the early years in Shelbyville raising the family and participating in civic activities such as AAUW, Tri Kappa and the Coterie. In later years she and Bob spent time with the family in Southern California, and travelled to the Caribbean, British Isles, Europe, Russia, Lake Victoria, Africa and Mexico. Of course, there were also visits to IU for football games to visit the alma mater and watching IU basketball on TV.

Roberta was also a devoted mother of three children and seven grandchildren. Roberta is survived by Barbara Inlow-Childress (Ken), Daniel Inlow (Laura), and Diana (Dee Dee) Inlow Paré (Thomas Jr.) as well as seven grandchildren, Amanda, Andrea and Christopher Childress, Kevin and Connor Inlow, and Claire and Thomas Paré, III plus nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert, and her sister Patricia Stoner.

Janet Carol Briley Sink, 84, of Leesburg, Florida, formerly Shelbyville, passed away Monday, January 22, 2024, at UF Health Leesburg Hospital.

She was born July 24, 1939 in Shelbyville, Indiana, the daughter of Perry W. and Ethel M.(Brown) Briley.

She was married to L. Wayne Sink for 20 years until his passing in 1991. Previously, she had been married to Richard E. Elkins for seven years and prior to that, James O. Sartin for four years.

Survivors include her daughter Sheri L. (Sartin) Sharp, her son-in-law Scott Sharp, her sister-in-law Jane Briley, and her special friend, Wiliam (Bill) Schoene. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Wayne, her son Karl Scott Sartin, her brother Karl Norman Briley, and her trusted kitty cat, Sweetie.

Mrs. Sink grew up in Shelbyville, graduating from Shelbyville High School in 1957. During high school, Janet had worked part time as a waitress at the former Chicken and Steak Restaurant along with her brother, Karl. After high school, she was employed as a secretary at Chambers Division Altamil Corp. in Shelbyville, and in the 1970s at The Associates Financial Services firm and at Mutual of New York Life Insurance Company (both with offices at that time in South Bend, Indiana).

In the early 90s, she and her husband Wayne moved to Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas, V.I., where she was employed with Frenchman's Reef Resort. After Wayne's passing, Janet returned to the U.S. mainland and chose to retire in Leesburg, Florida.

Janet had several neighbors that she considered good friends and she enjoyed the time she spent with them. She was proud of the landscaping she had done and the pineapples she had grown on her property.

Per her wishes, no funeral services will be observed.  

Jessie M. Williams, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, January 19, 2024 at

St. Francis Hospital.

Born October 16, 1933 in Moral Township, she was the daughter of George William

Abel and Nealie Augusta (Willis) Abel. 

She married Harlan M. Williams on November 2, 1952, and he preceded her on January 22, 2007.

Survivors include 4 sons- Jeffrey H. Williams (wife Connie) of Rushville, Donald Lee

Williams of Shelbyville, Ted A. Williams (wife Annie) of Shelbyville, Thomas R. Williams of Shelbyville; 2 daughters- Susan K, Williams of Shelbyville, Janice A. Herzberg  (husband David) of Raleigh, North Carolina; 9 grandchildren- Kyle D. Williams, Christopher A. Williams, Lindsay N. Pile, Courtney A. Hankins, Brittany Herzberg, Bradley Herzberg, Emily Scott, Kylee Scott, Ali Huff; and 14 great grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse, a grandson Craig M. Williams, and 9 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Williams was a lifelong resident of this area, and was a home maker.  She had previously been employed as a teller at Wanamaker Bank and as a cashier at Wheatley's Market in  Wanamaker for several years. 

She graduated from Moral Township High School and was a member of Fairview Community Church.

Jessie enjoyed sewing, baking, raising flowers and gardening, watching game shows on TV, and working word search puzzles.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Friday, January 26, 2024 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.   

Burial will be in London Cemetery. 

Friends may call on Friday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service.

Paul Edward Jacobs Sr., 84, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday January 20, 2024 at his residence.

He was born August 31, 1939 in Rushville, IN. to Virgil Jacobs and Viola (Cisco) Jacobs.

Paul worked at KT Corporation and specialized in welding before retiring after many years of service.

Paul loved to sing and dance, especially when his favorite songs would come on.  Going to church was very important to him, and he enjoyed the times he was able to attend the services.  Paul had a great sense of humor and enjoyed joking with his family.  Spending time and making memories with them was always some of his favorite times.

He married Luvern Regina (Dixon) Jacobs on December 11, 1965 and they spent 40 wonderful years of marriage together before she preceded him in death on June 14, 2006.

Paul is survived by his children, Barb Steele, Robert Merrick, Debbie (husband, Terry) Hammer, Marcia (husband, Barry) Geiling, Lisa Browning, Rhonda (husband, Dennis) Logsdon, Paul Jacobs Jr. (companion, Debbie), Elwona (husband, Larry) Pindell (Jacobs); 31 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren; 1 brother and  4 sisters.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 2 brothers; 2 sisters; 1 granddaughter and 2 great-granddaughters.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Melvin L. Jones, 95, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, January 13, 2024

Born October 24, 1928 in English, Indiana, he was the son of Stanley Luther

she preceded him on July 25, 2008.

Roy Allen Jones, 74, of Shelbyville, passed away Wednesday January 10, 2024 at Willows in Greensburg, IN.

He was born April 19, 1949 in Rushville, IN. to Mintford Jones and Elsie (Dixon) Jones.

He served in the United States Marines.

Roy worked at Williams Industrial in screen printing before he retired.

Roy admired the Beatles.  He was a supporter and an avid I.U. basketball fan and a true fan of Jeff Gordon.  Roy never missed an Indy 500 race, that was one of his favorite things to do.

Roy is survived by his daughter, Shannon Ginn; his granddaughter, Alexandria Ginn and his sister, Linda Sullivan; his niece; his great-niece and a longtime friend, Tim Simerly.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 9 brothers and 4 sisters.

Visitation will be Thursday, January 18, 2024 from noon to 2 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

William G. “Pete” Swango, 86, of Shelbyville, passed away, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.

He was born May 27, 1937, in New Point, the son of Mose William and Olive (Blair) Swango.  On June 26, 1992, he married Ethleen (Gurley) Miller Swango, and she survives.

In addition to Ethleen, Pete is survived by his daughters, Serena Baker, Angela Hadley and Crystal Dettmering; sister, Eulagene Roszell; four grandsons; two granddaughters; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Pamela Clark; and sisters, Gladys Lee, Frances Madden, Caroline Swango, Vivian Sallee, Annie Colberson, Wilma Lou Sallee and Rosellen Swango.

In 1955, he graduated from Greensburg High School.

He retired in 2007, from American Lifts, with 38 years of service.

Pete was a member of the Eagles Aerie Lodge No. 766, where he served as a past president and trustee.  He was also a member of American Legion Post No. 70.  Pete was formerly a member of the Moose Lodge No. 2118.

Pete enjoyed playing poker, teasing and telling jokes.

Robert Jeffery “Jeff” Kermode, 63, of Fairland, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.

He was born November 29, 1960, the son of Robert W. and Velma Marie (Kleiman) Kermode. Jeff and Athena “Tina”, spent 26 years together and were married on March 3, 2018.

In addition to Tina, Jeff is survived by his son, Robert Jarrett Kermode of Pleasantview; step-daughter, Amy Beaver and husband, Chad, of Fairland; brothers, Steven Kermode and wife, Andrea, and Todd Kermode and wife, Brenda, both of Fairland; sister, Beth Riggs of Fairland; grandchildren, Drayton Kermode, Madison Beaver, Hayden Beaver and Corbin Beaver; uncle, Art Kermode of Spearsville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In 1979, Jeff graduated from Triton Central High School.

He attended Rock Lane Christian Church.

Jeff liked construction and enjoyed working, he owned and operated Hard Times Construction since the 1980’s.

He loved life, and also enjoyed skiing, boating, hunting and riding his motorcycle.

Patricia Joanne Koth, 79, of Shelbyville, passed away, Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Franciscan St. Francis Health in Indianapolis.

She was born November 21, 1944, in San Diego, California, the daughter of Frank and Ardith (Barden) Gierhart.  On December 21, 1966, she married Michael Koth, and he survives.

In addition to Michael, Patricia is survived by her son, Michael Koth Jr. of Union, Kentucky; daughters, Shannon Kotarski of Indianapolis, Jennifer Thompson and husband, Travis, of Perrysburg, Ohio, Kathleen  Wilson and wife,  Brittainy, of Greenfield, and Heather Koth-Snyder and husband, Adam, of Shelbyville; grandchildren, Nathan Koth, Samantha Koth, Ashlie Swain, Evita Koth, Hailey Thompson and Ryan Thompson; and great-grandchildren, Jack Swain and Joey Swain.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and brother, Chester Gierhart.

In 1962, Patricia graduated from Regina High School in Cincinnati, Ohio.  She received her bachelor’s in education from Edge Cliff College (Xavier University).

Patricia enjoyed substitute teaching.  Spending time with her family and friends was her greatest treasure.

Gregory D. Haskins, 60, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024

at his residence.

Born December 24, 1963 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Mary Lou Haskins.

Survivors include 2 sisters- Lisa Starks and Stephanie Haskins, both of Shelbyville;

4 nieces and nephews- LaShaunda Haskins, Chris Starks, Kenecia Haskins,

Jakayra Owens; and his great nieces and nephews- Darian Watkins, Brooklyn

Brown, and Christian Haskins.

He was preceded in death by his mother and a sister Cynthia Haskins Dobbs.

Mr. Haskins was a lifelong resident of this area, and graduated from Shelbyville

High School in  1982.  He had worked as an internet tech with Veteran's Affairs

for several  years.

Jimmie H. Shafer, 76, of Waldron, passed away  Sunday, January 7, 2024 at Waldron

Health Care.

Born February 14, 1947 in Shelbyville, he was the son of  William H. Shafer and Dorothy Ellen (Cowins) Shafer. He married Bonnie (Holt) Shafer in May of 1971 and she preceded him in 1984. 

He then married Nancy (Folse) Shafer on July 26, 1997 and she survives.

Other survivors include 2 children- Ronnie Harold Shafer of Waldron, Elizabeth Lou Lewis (husband Lloyd) of Flat Rock; 3 stepchildren- Nicole Chidester (husband Jim) of Wisconsin, Katrina Bergdahl (husband Raymond) of Indianapolis, Joel Campbell Sr. (wife Deborah) of Indianapolis; 2 sisters- Peggy (Shafer) Crain of St. Paul, Crystal (Shafer) Shook of Waldron; 2 grandchildren- Braxton Savage & Bailey Savage; and 5 step grandchildren. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse Bonnie, daughter Misty Shafer, and granddaughter Chyanne Shafer, and his beloved dog Brownie.

Mr. Shafer was a lifelong resident of this area, and attended Waldron High School.  He was a truck driver for Wheeler Corp., retiring after 40+ years of service.  He was a member of Waldron Baptist Church and American Legion Post #70, and was the union rep at Wheeler Corp.

Jimmie enjoyed fishing and camping, his driving job at work, and spending time with family and friends.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Glenn E. George Funeral Home, 106 E. Franklin St. St. Paul with burial in Van Pelt Cemetery.

Scott Allen Whiteman, 55, of Fairland, passed away Wednesday January 3, 2024 at his residence.
He was born April 1, 1968 in Indianapolis, IN. to Albert “Bill” W. Whiteman and Thelma (Scruggs) Stanfield.
Scott grown up in Indiana Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Children’s Home. He attended Washington High School in Indianapolis and graduated from Lincoln Tech.
He enjoyed riding motorcycles, fishing and shooting guns in his free time. Scott’s real passion was working on cars and doing mechanical work. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and grandchildren. He strived to ensure his grandchildren knew his love for them.
Scott is survived by his daughters, Carrie Davis, Danielle Winters-Whiteman, Faith Whiteman and Sarah Whiteman; his son, Scott Joest; his step-son, Ian Robling; 7 grandchildren; his brother, William “Billy” Whiteman and Kelly Whiteman; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Michael Whiteman and step-son, Brian Robling.

Kimberly D. (Tucker) Brown, 61, formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday January 6, 2024 at Norton Audubon Hospital of Louisville, KY.

She was born September 4, 1962 in Wofford, KY. to James L. Tindle and Beulah F. (Tindle) Lawson.

Kim graduated from High School in 1980 and then went to Tennessee College and got her nurses license.

Kim worked at Especially Kidz as the Administration Director of Nursing until November 2023.

Kim was a very loving and caring person. She would always give and put everyone before herself.

She married William Todd Brown on November 24, 2023 and he survives.

Kim is also survived by her daughter, Laura Faye Tucker; her son, James “Jimmy” Coyt; her grandson, Cooper Tucker; her sisters, Wanda (husband, Gary) Foster, Patty Jo (husband, Shawn) Key, Beverly Tindle-Baker; her brothers, Scott Tindle and Robert Lee (wife, Linda) Tindle.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Corey Tucker;  brother, James Tindle; her sister-in-law, Ruth Tindle; brother-in-law, Harvey Baker.

Visitation will be Friday, January 12, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Dessie Dillow, 70, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023 at Rosegate Village in Indianapolis.

Born December 6, 1953 in Shelbyville, she was the daughter of Charles Bowman and Lucille (Wells) Bowman. She married Daniel Dillow and he preceded her in death in 2009.

Survivors include 1 daughter- Heather Bowman; 3 siblings- Peggy (Ron) Benandi of Alabama, Robert Bowman of Rushville, Ronald Bowman of Shelbyville; she is also survived by sister in law Sherry Bowman of Geneva and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, grandparents and 2 sisters and 2 brothers.

Dessie had lived in this area most of her lifetime after previously moving from North Carolina. She was a homemaker. Dessie enjoyed doing arts and crafts, word search puzzles, listening to Christian music and watching tv.

Graveside service will be 11:00 am, Monday, January 8, 2024 at Fairland Cemetery.

Billy Ray (Bill) Farmer, 86, of New Palestine, formerly of Morristown, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024, at Ascension St. Vincent Heart Center in Carmel.

He was born October 24, 1937, in Taylor County, Kentucky, the son of Damon and Lettie (Richerson) Farmer.  On May 12, 1961, he married his wife of 62 years, Sandra Sue Keffaber, and she survives.

In addition to Sue, Bill is survived by his sons, Troy Farmer of Indianapolis and Trent Farmer of New Palestine; daughter, Natalie Gavin and husband, Jim, of Indianapolis; brother, Jack Farmer and wife, Barb, of Winter Haven, Florida; sister, Donna Tippy of Worthington; grandchildren, Jordan Johnson and husband, Bobby, Austin Farmer and wife, Danielle, Carson Gavin and Raeann Gavin; great-grandchildren, Hallie, Sadie, Crosby, Avery, and Demi Farmer, and Lettie Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents.

He was a devoted and very active member of the Morristown Christian Church, where he served as an elder for over 40 years.  Bill also served as a deacon, Sunday school teacher, and past treasurer at the church.   He assisted with many funerals throughout the years and was asked by numerous people to officiate their funeral. His response was always, “On one condition. You have to go before me.”

In 1955, Bill graduated from Morristown High School, and he attended Purdue University.

Bill was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1960 to 1962.

He retired in 1997, as an auditor for CountryMark Co-Op, with 26 years of service. He continued tax preparation and consulting throughout his retirement.

Bill was also a member of the Sugar Creek Masonic Lodge No. 279 F&AM, and a past master of the Morristown Masonic Lodge No. 193 F&AM.  He was an honorary member of the Shelby Masonic Lodge No. 28 F&AM and New Palestine Lodge No. 404 F&AM.

He enjoyed playing golf and fishing.  Bill also enjoyed watching the Indianapolis Colts and the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his favorite team was the Purdue Boilermakers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7:30 pm, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, and from 10 to 11 am, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the Morristown Christian Church, 209 S. Washington St. in Morristown. Masonic services will be at 7:30 pm, Tuesday, at the church.

Funeral services will be at 11 am, Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at the church, with Pastors Fred Hickman and Jim Coyle officiating.

Interment will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Justin Alexander Jackson, 41, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, January 5, 2024.

Born in Johnson County on November 5, 1982, he was the son of Frances Jackson and the late Carl Jackson.

A 2001 graduate of Waldron Junior-Senior High School, he attended Ball State University, completing a Bachelor of Science degree in criminal justice. He then obtained master’s degrees in both public administration and political science before receiving his juris doctorate in law in 2014 from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. He was previously employed as a probation officer in Hamilton County.

An athlete in high school, Justin was a member of the sectional champion basketball team in 2001. He also played baseball, tennis, and was the Shelby County shotput champion in 2001.

A kind and gentle person, Justin was a proud supporter of his country, and especially loved cats.  

Justin is survived by his mother, Frances; a brother, Simon (Kristen) Jackson and their children, Elizabeth and Caleb; a sister, Sharon (Chris) Simon and their children Spencer and Chandler.

Visitation will be from 11 am to 1 pm, Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Funeral services will follow at 1 pm, Tuesday, at the funeral home.

Justin will be laid to rest at Whispering Hope Cemetery.

Roger A. New of Shelbyville, passed away January 5, 2024 at St. Francis Hospital.

He was born in Shelbyville on February 13, 1950 to Homer & Amey (Loveless) New. 

He graduated from Shelbyville High School and attended Franklin College.  He married Terri (Weaver) New, and they were married for 48 years when she passed.

Roger was a very successful business owner for 47 years 

He enjoyed playing softball, and as a team owner, his  was the only team to win the ASA in 3 different decades.  He enjoyed drag racing with his son and many of his friends.  He enjoyed being "The Boss" and taking care of his many workers.  He would help people in any way he could.  

Roger was preceded in death by his wife Terri in December 2023, by his son Roger Jr. in December 2019, his father in 1971, and his mother in 1991.  He is survived by his son, Travis New  of Fishers, 4 grandchildren- Jonathon, Justice, Aleah, Jameson; sisters Betty (John) Nedderman, Norma (Creed) Wells, Shelly New, all of Shelbyville; brother Donald New of Indianapolis; extended family Joyce Jeffries and her daughter Stacy and their families; and many nieces and nephews who loved him. He is also survived by his faithful companion, Yogi Blue New.   

He will be loved and missed by all who knew him.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with David Benefiel officiating.  Burial will be in Lewis Creek Baptist Cemetery. 

Friends may call on Wednesday morning from 12:00 noon until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

Stephen “Gary” Pennington, 80, of Ankeny, Iowa, formerly of Shelby County, passed away Wednesday, January 3, 2024.
He was born January 25, 1943, in Chavies, Kentucky, the son of Russell and Edna (Napier) Pennington.  He married Diane Boring, and she survives.
In addition to Diane, Gary is survived by his brother, Donald Ray Pennington of Scottsburg.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Ronald Pennington.
He received his Master’s degree in Forestry from Purdue University.
Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard, serving from 1967 to 1971.
He owned and operated Pennington Forestry Services, for 50 years.
Graveside services will be held at 1:30 pm, Monday, January 8, 2024, at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Avenue in Shelbyville.

Sherman Jeffrey Chaney, 57, of Shelbyville, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at his residence.

Born November 11, 1966 in Shelbyville, he was the son of Sherman Chaney and Flora (Gibson) Comstock. He married Stacy (Tucker) Chaney on October 5, 1985, and she preceded him on January 16, 2017.

Survivors include 3 children- Jeffrey Chaney of Pendleton, Jeremy Chaney of Shelbyville, Jennifer Chaney of Shelbyville; companion Lisa Johnson of Shelbyville; family friend Kevin Fritz of Shelbyville; siblings Travis Smothers, Chasity Smothers, & Shawn Comstock, all of Shelbyville;  2 grandchildren- Jeremy A.M. Chaney, and Jakota Chaney. He was preceded in death by his parents, his spouse, and a grandson Pierce Chaney.

Mr. Chaney was a lifelong resident of this area, and attended Shelbyville High School. He was a carpenter with Advanced Services LLC. of Beech Grove for many years. Jeffrey enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and working on his Pontiac Grand Prix. He loved playing Fantasy Football and fishing with Lisa.

Funeral services will be 12:00 noon on Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, with burial in Miller Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday morning from 10:00 am until the time of the service, at the funeral home.

Robert (Robbie) Edward Elliott Jr., 70, of Shelbyville, Indiana passed away on December 31, 2023 at his residence after a lengthy battle with Parkinsons disease.

Robbie was Born on January 9, 1953 to Robert Elliott Sr. and Beverly Elliott in Shelbyville Indiana where he lived his entire life.

Upon graduation from Shelbyville High School in 1971, he worked in the family business for several years until he joined the Shelbyville Fire Department on December 30, 1987 and served until his retirement on January 30, 2009. It was his service to the fire department that gave Robbie and all of us a sense of pride in his willingness to serve in that capacity. Robbie loved his fellow colleagues, as they did him, and he was truly dedicated to his responsibilities of the cause.

Robbie lived a very admirable simple lifestyle, and was always quick to use his dry sense of humor to brighten up the day. He loved sports and outdoor activities, and was very active during his entire life. He truly will be missed by all who knew him.

Robbie is survived by his parents and three sisters, Pamela Tucker (Dan) of Shelbyville, Theresa Harlan (Joe) of Scottsdale AZ, and Deborah Elliott of Shelbyville.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Thursday, January 4, 2024, at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, Carmony-Ewing Chapel, 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville.

Robert “Buckwheat” Clapp, 77, of Morristown, passed away Monday, January 1, 2024, at Hancock Regional Hospital in Greenfield.
He was born October 16, 1946, in Indianapolis, the son of Harold Clapp and Bonnie J. (Davis) McVey. 

On December 5, 1971, he married Janet Lynn Hough, and she preceded him in death on September 9, 1996.  

He married Maggie Morton, and she passed away in December of 2017.
Robert is survived by his sons, Robert Clapp and wife, Rebecca, of Sulphur Springs, and Rodney Clapp of Greenfield; daughter, Monica Clapp of Acton; brother, Harold “Bud” Clapp of Bloomington, Illinois; sister, Kathy Kincade of Morristown; grandchildren, Austin Clapp and wife, Kacie, Tate Clapp, Dyllan Clapp, Marissa Clapp, Evan Clapp and Addelynn Widner; great-grandchild, Kacin; and three nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Brady Kincade.
In 1964, Robert graduated from Morristown High School.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving for two years.
Robert formerly owned and operated the Brightwood Meat Market.  He retired in 2001, as a meat cutter for Krogers.
He enjoyed going fishing, mowing his yard and riding his motorcycle.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, January 5, 2024, at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.

Evelyn M. Benson, 88, of Shelbyville, passed away Saturday, December 23, 2023 at Willows of Shelbyville.

Born May 7, 1935 in Bartholomew County, she was the daughter of Wilbur Williams and Marie (Gobel) Williams. She married Richard M. Benson on April 2, 1955 and he preceded her on August 15, 2023.

Survivors include 1 daughter- Valerie Jorgensen of Shelbyville; and 1 sister- Gladys Stewart of Shelbyville. She was preceded in death by her parents and spouse.

Evelyn was a self employed hair stylist for many years with Evelyn's Beauty Salon and graduated from Shelbyville High School. She was a member of Shelby County Home Extension Club. She had lived in this area most of her lifetime after previously moving from Henryville. Evelyn loved arts and crafts, cooking, sewing, and reading.

Graveside services will be 2:00 pm, Tuesday, January 2, 2024 at Forest Hill Cemetery, 704 Morris Ave, Shelbyville, with Rev. David Humphrey officiating. Visitation will be from 1:30 pm until the time of the service, at the gravesite.

Jessie W. Sanders, 90, of Shelbyville, passed away Monday, December 25, 2023 at Franciscan Health Indianapolis.

She was born June 18, 1933 in Ripley Co., IN. to Russell Duncan and Norma (Pratt) Duncan.

Jessie attended school in Milory, IN., and also attended Vine Street Methodist Church.

Jessie worked at the Garmet Factory for 12 years then she spent 15 years with Western Electric before retiring in 1984.

She loved going to McDonald’s and spending time with her friends.  Jessie also enjoyed watching her humming birds.  Her greatest joy came from spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Jessie married Robert Hampton on July 22, 1950 and he preceded her in death on January 3, 1963.  She then married Donald Sanders on December 8, 1973 and preceded her in death on October 26, 2016.

Jessie is survived by her daughter, Angie Phares (companion, Marty Green); her daughter-in-law, Linda Hampton; her grandchildren, Jodi (husband, Jeff) Hardt, Kelli (husband, Doug) Warner, Danielle Phares (companion, Jared Hoop), Dustin (wife, Stephanie) Phares, Brenda Hubbard, Billie Goodwin, Christy Black, Leslie Faris, Shannon Hogue; her great-grandchildren, Nathan, Caydon, Corbyn, Ari, Alex, Oliver, Cashton; her sister, Melvalena Brock; and her brother, Larry (wife, Ging) Duncan; several nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Suzie.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Ray Hampton; her sisters, Dorothy Sweet and Laura “Jeree” Smith; her brothers, Clarence Duncan, Howard Duncan; and her step-daughter, Debbie Meadows.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 2, 2024 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Murphy-Parks Funeral Service, 703 S. Harrison Street, Shelbyville, IN 46176.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Andy Lee officiating.

William “Billy” Ryan Witte, 44, of Chicago, IL, passed away on Friday, December 29, 2023 peacefully in his sleep at his home. 

Billy was born on June 5, 1979 in Grand Rapids, MI to William Joseph and Roslynne Mattano Witte.  In February of 2020, he married the love of his life, Alexa Mather, in a ceremony on the beach in Mexico.  Billy and Alexa created a beautiful home and life together in Chicago alongside their fur babies, Lucy and Walter.  They traveled frequently to their favorite vacation spot - Maui, Hawaii.

Soon after returning home from their wedding, Billy started to feel symptoms.  He saw countless doctors all the while searching for an answer.  In May of 2021, he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).  Billy took the diagnosis hard, but he was surrounded by an army of clients, trainers, friends, and family that supported him throughout his journey.  Alexa continued to be the rock in Billy’s life as his biggest advocate and remained by his side until the end. 

Nearly 20 years ago, Billy started his career as a personal trainer in Chicago.  Billy's passion for health and fitness as well as his own transformation, gave him the urge to help anyone that wanted to be helped.  His compassionate and caring nature allowed people to connect with him on a personal level while achieving their health goals.  As a result, Billy not only helped hundreds of clients - he formed many cherished friendships over the years.

Billy fought a long and courageous battle.  He will be remembered for living a healthy lifestyle, having a positive impact on his clients, and his outgoing nature as well as the wonderful life he created with his wife and spending time with friends and family.  He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him, especially his parents, wife, and older brother.

Graveside services will be held at 12 Noon EST Thursday, January 4, at Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, MI with Rev. Mark Peacock officiating.

Burial will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Wyoming, MI. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Billy’s wife, Alexa Mather-Witte.  It would also be a fitting tribute if you chose to make a contribution to an ALS organization such as I Am ALS, ALS United Greater Chicago, or Team Gleason Foundation.
